Good morning…
The joy was palpable as we created one hundred Christmas gift bags for police officers to deliver to senior citizens in the impoverished Grove Park area of our community. Before we began the PAWkids’ project, I had no idea how we would actually accomplish the festive feat. After two fun-filled work sessions, everything came together almost effortlessly. Amazed, I felt like I had witnessed a modern day miracle, a few fish and a couple loaves feeding love to the hungry.
Thanks goes out to so many of you in our written word community who joined our creative collaboration. Hats. Scarves. Gloves. Candles. Candies. Note cards. Toiletries. Nuts. Encouraging books. Scripture verses. Framed sayings. Flower vases. Jewelry pieces. Gift items joyfully came in from every direction. Our abundant generosity filled every single bag.
We snapped the photo above with a few of the magic-making elves who offered hands on help. Using our car as a sacred sleigh, I drove the gift bags to the team at PAWkids, who will share our love with the police, who will share our love with the seniors, who will feel blessed by God this Christmas season.
Still others in our written word community sent financial gifts to support the project. $20. $50. $100. $150. Our generous contributions to this unplanned PAWkids project blossomed to $800. When I asked LaTonya Gates, founder and director of PAWkids, how she might use our financial donations, she said, “Wow! Can you buy Target gift cards for the teachers at KIPP? These teachers offer loving support the kids who come to our after school enrichment program. I want to write a personal note to each of them and gift cards would be a great form of encouragement.”
One hundred Christmas gift bags for the seniors plus one big bag of Target gift cards for the teachers. What a wonderful gift of God given joyfully through us!
Your hearts can soar with joyful gratitude when you think of how God made you worthy to receive the glorious inheritance freely given to us by living in the light (Colossians 1:12, TPT).
