Good Morning…
I was the first to wake in my friend’s mountain home. Surprise. Surprise. As I shuffled my way down the stairs in the dimly lit dark, I noticed a children’s book sitting in a pile on the third step from the bottom: Same Kind of Different As Me For Kids: Everybody Can Help Somebody by Ron Hall and Denver Moore.
Picking up the book, I slipped out onto the side porch and flipped on the light. After brewing our first pot of coffee, I opened the hard, colorful cover to read this inviting introduction.
and he will reward him for what he has done.
– Proverbs 19:17
“Dear Parents,
For nearly ten years Denver and I traveled across America telling our story and hoping to make a difference in the way people view and treat the homeless. From the beginning it was evident that children were drawn to Denver.
After a six-year-old boy heard the story from Same Kind of Different As Meabout how Denver never had a real toy as a boy, he told his mother, “I want to give Denver my red fire truck.” A few days later, the boy presented his favorite toy to Denver. Denver displayed that little fire truck – and the kindness it represented – in a glass box like a great work of art until his passing.
Denver loved children, and his story moved many kids to action. “We gots to write a book these kids can read,” Denver told me. This wise and godly man had these final words for the children: “Tell them nobody can help everybody, but everybody can help somebody!”
Denver’s dream and my hope is through the pages of this book, your children will be filled with compassion and with the desire to make a difference in the world around them by helping somebody.
Sincerely,
Ron Hall”
I smiled at God’s wildly creative outreach efforts. A children’s book I never knew existed laying on the third stair of my friend’s mountain home. The kids’ version of the book I loved nine years ago, the movie I’m so excited for you to see, and the focal point of event that will gather thousands in our city to raise funds and awareness about how we can make a difference in the world around us by helping somebody.
God is so cool. My happy heart says again and again: “God is so cool.”
Give your food to the hungry
and care for the homeless.
Then your light will shine
in the dark;
your darkest hour will be
like the noonday sun (Isaiah 58:10, CEV).
