Good morning…
As she cut my hair, I read the tattoo on the underside of her left arm: “The happiest girls are the prettiest,” says the tattoo on the underside of her left arm. I thought to myself, “That statement is actually quite biblical.”
Proverbs 15:13a (NLT) says simply: “A glad heart makes a happy face.” The second half of that proverb is also true: “A broken heart crushes the spirit.”
God revives our spirit by slowly mending our broken heart. We cooperate in the healing process by focusing our heart, mind, and soul on the smells and sounds, the thoughts and the memories, the sights and that sensations that make spark our gratitude. Focusing on a positive thought, emotion, or experience in a series of 25 to 30 second installments, we gradually rewire our brain and gladness our heart. A growing state of gratitude naturally lights our happy face.
Your adornment must not be merely external—with interweaving and elaborate knotting of the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or [being superficially preoccupied with] dressing in expensive clothes; but let it be [the inner beauty of] the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, [one that is calm and self-controlled, not overanxious, but serene and spiritually mature] which is very precious in the sight of God (1 Peter 3:3-5 Amplified Bible, AMP).
Beauty is NOT external. Superficial. Preoccupied. Expensive. Overanxious.
Instead beauty IS this. The hidden person of the heart. An imperishable quality. Unfading charm. Gentle, peaceful spirit. Calm, self-controlled. Serene, spiritually mature. Such beauty is very precious in the sight of our God as it expands out to bless the world.
The left underarm of my favorite hair cutter speaks God’s truth: “The happiest girls are the prettiest.”
