Good morning…
Praying in silence to begin this day, for the first time I notice a new thing. The peace lily in our living room has a white bloom appearing. I have watered this plant diligently, every few days, since it was given to me as a gift a while back. I have enjoyed nurturing her glossy green leaves and today, on Memorial Day 2018, today is the first day this peace lily blooms white.
You know me, I love to research new things snagging my attention, so I google “How often does a peace lily bloom?” I learn three interesting facts:
- Peace lilies are often given as a gift of remembrance. Today so many of us are grieving the loss of loved ones not with us.
- Peace lilies bloom in early summer. For most of us, today is the day “school year” experientially tips into summertime.
- Peace lilies only flower in a nurturing environment. Today we each pause and ponder: “Am I doing my part to nurture peace?”
As always God’s timing is totally perfect. This little white bloom whispers to me today: “God is in the process of expanding peace throughout our globe. As we honor the memory of those loved and lost, the blooming of peace is first nurtured in the silent prayers lifted daily in our living room.”
Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. We’re Christ’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them. We’re speaking for Christ himself now: Become friends with God; he’s already a friend with you (2 Corinthians 5:17-20, MSG).
