Good morning…
“Linger” has always been one of my favorite words. Inviting and multifaceted, to linger means to remain in a place longer than expected. To pass time, waiting, in a leisurely way. To persist, although gradually dying, ceasing, disappearing. To stroll, shuffle, stick around. To tarry, trudge, traipse. To dwell, dawdle, dillydally. Linger is slow not fast. Linger is quiet not loud. Linger is more God’s pace, less the world’s race.
Through June, July, and August, together we will linger on the thin line existing between:
me – – – you,
us – – – God,
old – – – new,
fear – – – faith,
dark – – – light,
true – – – false,
seen – – – unseen,
earth – – – heaven,
order – – – disorder,
asleep – – – awake,
inside – – – outside,
visible – – – invisible,
known – – – unknown,
death – – – resurrection,
right now – – – for eternity.
What a joy to set up camp this summer on a sacred plot of holy ground.
Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing (Ephesians 2:7-10, MSG).
Grab your coffee. Rest your bare feet. Cozy onto your couch. We are in for a treat,
