Good morning…

Before leaving our final gathering of the semester, she gave me a tender hug, handed me a small paper bag, and softly said, “You came into my life at just the right time.” Standing beside her, I pulled from the flat, brown bag one simple, organic-looking card bearing rudimentary typing. Our hearts nestled together, breathing in the words of e.e. cummings.

“i thank you god for this most amazing day:
for the leaping greenly spirits of the trees and a blue true dream of the sky;
and for everything
which is natural
which is infinite
which is yes”

It made my day to receive the rustic blessing of this 3 x 5 card, dripping with gratitude for “this most amazing day,” from a woman who is grieving a very significant loss.

Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer (Philippians 1:3-4, MSG),
