Good morning…

In a memorable service, we honored his life. A father and a grandfather. A coach and a mentor. A friend and a legend. His full-bodied life we honored wholeheartedly. At the reception afterward, I quietly browsed the table of memorabilia. Awards and pictures. Boyhood smile to doting dad to grinning grandad. Snapshot after snapshot captured his unique way of truly loving and being loved. Then my eyes rested on the quote handwritten on a small chalkboard at the center of the table. I pulled out a pen and a piece of scrap paper to take home the central wisdom inspired by his too-short life.

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou

God, your God, will cut away the thick calluses on your heart and your children’s hearts, freeing you to love God, your God, with your whole heart and soul and live, really live (Deuteronomy 30:6, MSG).

As I walk through today, how much of God’s love do I make people feel?
