Good morning…
If you knew your close friend would betray you by evening’s end, would you sit down beside him and share a meal? If you knew this would be your final dinner, would you willingly pull up a chair and relax into your seat? If you knew this celebration would lead to your death, would you show up for the big event? With one verse in Scripture Jesus says, “Yes, I will sit down beside.” “Yes, I will relax into my seat.” “Yes, I will show up for this final feast.”
“Now before the Passover Feast, Jesus knew that His hour had come [and it was time] for Him to leave this world and return to the Father,” begins John 13:1 (AMP). The verse continues, “Having [greatly] loved His own who were in the world, He loved them [and continuously loves them with His perfect love] to the end (eternally).” Jesus knew that his hour had come. It was time. He knew in his heart, “My time has come.”
Sometimes I think, “Jesus had is easy.” He knew God’s eternal plan to redeem all of creation. He knew he had come from the Father and would return to the Father’s side. He knew pain would birth his purpose, enduring betrayal, loving anyway, leaving earth for heaven. Sometimes I think, “Jesus had it easy.”
Then truth sinks from my head to my heart: “We have it easy too.” We know God’s eternal plan to redeem all of creation. We know we have come from the Father and will return to the Father. We know pain will birth our purpose also.
When we feel betrayed by God and by people, how might we lean into Jesus and love like he does, greatly, continuously, eternally?
