Good morning…
As I sat in dense, inching traffic at 5:45 pm, I felt gratitude gradually grow.
With the winter sun setting early, I was unexpectedly stopped, stilled in awe. I watched God at work, painting playful pastels in the evening sky. Had I focused my eyes on the bumper to bumper frustration, anger and anxiety would have welled up from within. Instead, my gaze was invited upward to enjoy the LORD’s lush, living landscape. Gratitude is sparked by the Artist who airbrushes.
From where did the word ‘airbrush’ come? ‘Airbrush’ is not a common word in my daily dictionary. With piqued interest, I follow her magnetic pull. I learn that to ‘airbrush’ means to improve the image of a person or thing by concealing unwanted parts. To obscure unpleasant details. To prettify, decorating the dull.
I lift my eyes to you,
O God, enthroned in heaven.
We keep looking to the Lord our God for his mercy…
Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy,
for we have had our fill of contempt (Psalm 123:1-3, NLT).
Like difficult people and painful situations, rush hour traffic is unwanted, unpleasant. As December days shift to night, might we notice gratitude ‘airbrushing’ our contempt?
