Good morning…
Following yesterday’s post, “Fitting in is not belonging,” a wise, dear friend wrote: “Reading your post reminded me that we spend our lives searching for significance (belonging and being loved), yet God made us not to be significant, but influential. Significance glorifies us; influencing others for Christ, glorifies Him.”
“Your reference to ‘5th grade angst’ hit home. My daughter had a similar experience in 5th grade with mean girls that proved to be so traumatic that we, even now, describe difficulty as ‘I’m having a 5th grade moment.'”
“It was during this time that I asked her, ‘Why are you trying so hard to fit in, when you were made to stand out?’ I wanted to teach her that she was made in God’s image and imprinted with many of His characteristics, and therefore more beautiful than she imagined. ‘And besides,’ I continued, ‘Be authentic, be yourself; everyone else is taken.’”
Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life, Galatians 6:4-5 (MSG),
