Good morning…

One year ago yesterday we buried a beloved friend to many in our community. His courageous battle with brain cancer taught us valuable lessons about loving wholeheartedly, expressing true feelings with every ounce of our being, and trusting our Creator to eventually carry us home, from imperfect earth to the perfection of heaven, from seeing dimly with human eyes to seeing everything through God’s eyes, in clear, vivid color.

Yesterday I had the privilege of rounding out year one with his wife, one of my very, very best friends. We set a time, we enjoyed a long, brisk walk-and-talk, then we nestled into her cozy living room to think back and to think forward, to remember and to renew, to meander together through joys and sorrows, hurts and hopes, dreams and decisions, each shaping us profoundly. As we came to the close of our special time together, the Holy Spirit in me rose up to embrace the Holy Spirit in her with a hug and a heartfelt, “Happy New Year.”

They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest, Psalm 126:6 (NLT),
