Good morning…

“There is a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,” says the third chapter of Ecclesiastes. To me, it seemed like a good time to refrain.

While we were reconnecting one evening after a weekend apart, my husband went to the kitchen to get some water. What greeted him was a mammoth hot mess. Quickly he called for me. I watched, dumbfounded, as a fountain of water sprayed wildly from the disconnected hose under our sink, gushing hot water all over our hard wood floors. “Grab towels,” he shouted as he tried to cut off the valve to the out of control water. I scurried to the linen closet and rushed back to the kitchen, laying down towel after towel after towel to slow down the puddle quickly spreading, all over our kitchen floor, into our laundry room, and unfortunately, we later discovered, down through the ceiling of our basement to cover the rooms beneath with standing water.

Ninety minutes later, when every towel in the house was drenched, when the clock had ticked past the eleventh hour, I figured it was time to refrain from embracing. He thought embracing was still a great idea. Expanding into our imperfect evening, God’s Spirit spread out to embraced us both.

Jesus said, “…The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life,”
