Good morning…
Looking directly south, I snapped this photo from our back porch this morning, just after God woke me at 5:30 am. If you look closely, you can see the well-lit dome of the Georgia State Capitol building in downtown Atlanta, the highest illuminated peak to the left in the dawning distance. Our new hometown is abuzz today, as our southern city hosts Super Bowl LIII.
When we savor this Sabbath, we notice God everywhere. Beneath and above the neon hoopla and hype, God is. Beside and intimately with us through the “growing pains” of dark nights, God is. All around and deep within everyone everywhere, God is.
Will we slow our inner pace to sense God’s presence beneath and above? Will our aching soul feel the touch of God beside and intimately with us? Will we treasure and trust: “God is all around and deep within?”
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast (Psalm 139:7-10, NIV).
Years ago, God’s Spirit guided our short family from the north to the south (touch “Previous” at the top of this message to review this week’s collective journey). As we all continue to settle more deeply into the gentle-strong right hand of our constant Companion, may we each feel “held fast” in whatever circumstances we wake to this day.
