Good morning…

Before sophisticated, arial footage of the utter devastation in The Bahamas, “those victims” would have remained foreign, faceless, far away. What stays out of sight slips from our mind. What our eyes see our minds retain. What saturates our mind, our heart feels. What our heart feels moves our lips, our feet, our hands. I am grateful for the media coverage of the Dorian’s aftermath. Horrific images. Frightening firsthand accounts. Searching separation from loved ones, fearing the worst but hoping, maybe, just maybe.

Seeing footage. Feeling compassion. Listening for the part we are designed to play.

We lean into our God-designed DNA. Remember the words of Genesis 1:26-28? In the Message translation we are told: God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.” God created human beings; he created them godlike, Reflecting God’s nature. He created them male and female. God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”

For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes] (1 Corinthians 2:16, AMP).

And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours] (Philippians 4:7, AMP).

Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us (2 Timothy 1:14, NIV).

With the mind of Christ and the help of the Holy Spirit, we will know what role we are to play in God’s healing work today and each day, hour by hour.
