speed-bumps

Good morning…

As we were at the beach for fall break last weekend, I ran into a type of table I had never heard of before. Here is the sign that piqued my interest.

“What,” I thought, “is a traffic table?” My curious mind came home searching google for an answer. Here is what I learned. A traffic table is “a midblock traffic calming device that raises the entire wheelbase of a vehicle to reduce its traffic speed. Speed tables are longer than speed humps and flat-topped, with a height of 3–3.5 inches and a length of 22 feet. Vehicle operating speeds for streets with speed tables range from 25–45 mph, depending on the spacing.”

A traffic table appears at midblock, supporting the whole weight of a vehicle, slowing it down, calming its speed. I feel like our “Savoring Sabbath” posts each Sunday act like a traffic table, appearing in the midblock of our lives, supporting our whole weight, slowing us down, calming our speed so that we are able to notice God’s loving presence moving subtly, constantly among us. By touching on the “Past Blog Posts” button below, please take some time to review where we have traveled together around the block of this one-of-a-kind week, from communion table to crowded table God’s hopeful harvest is served generously here.

“Slow down. Take a deep breath. What’s the hurry? Why wear yourself out? Just what are you after anyway? But you say, ‘I can’t help it. I’m addicted to alien gods. I can’t quit’” (Jeremiah 2:25, MSG).
