Betty-Kitty-me

Good morning…

Oops. My mistake. Our friend Betty Skinner turned 94-years-old yesterday, not Saturday as I jumped the gun and announced. Again I am humbly reminded, I am a big picture person, not a detail diva. Yet God now morphs my mistake into another opportunity. Kitty Crenshaw, co-author of the book we are studying this semester, The Hidden Life Awakened, has given me permission to share her birthday letter posted yesterday.

Dear All,

It is our sweet friend Betty’s 94th birthday today! Other than being almost blind, pretty much deaf, and having difficulty getting around, she is doing wonderfully. 😉 Her mind is strong and her spirit is as powerful as ever! Everyone in the nursing home loves her and grabs a warm hug and a little affirmation when they see her.

Since she is always talking about the giving and receiving of love, we thought you might like to celebrate her 95th year with us by giving a gift of love to her and receiving a gift of love from her. A beautiful gift to her would be for you to tell her how her life and work has touched you. She doesn’t do technology, but you can send your love to her using large font and snail mail. You can also email your note to us at support@thehiddenlifeawakened.com, and we will read it to her. She will be so happy.

Your gift to receive is another amazing “Awake to Wholeness” weekend retreat in Atlanta on March 27th and 28th.

Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and Northside United Methodist Church will join with us to offer you the gift that came from Betty’s life, suffering, and wisdom—the possibility of realizing and living from your deepest and truest self, whole-hearted and well-balanced, body, mind and spirit—the possibility of awakening to your life hidden with Christ in God.

For details and registration, please touch on this link. We can’t wait to be with you!

With Joy and Warmest Blessings,
Kitty and Cathy

Even when we make mistakes, it is amazing to watch God grow great gifts among us, state by state, person by person, year by year. As we give and receive God’s gracious love, together our true selves grow up more whole. Romans 12:4-6 (MSG) explains: In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn’t amount to much, would we? So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ’s body, let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t.

Mistakes and all, let’s go ahead and be what we were made to be.
