Good morning…

“There is a dead weight of accumulation,” Anne Morrow Lindbergh admits in Gift From The Sea, “a coating of false values, habits and burdens which blight life. It is this smothering coat that needs constantly to be stripped off, in life as well as in relationships” (58).

Dead weight. Accumulation. Coating of falseness – values, habits, burdens. A smothering coat in need of stripping. At week nine of this work-from-home weirdness, it finally felt time for our family to deal with some dirt.

You know the photo greeting you every morning on our blog, the one with me journaling beside our little dog, Gracie? Look closely at the wall behind me. It is filthy, really filthy. Our wall was burdened with the accumulation of time and weather, mud and moisture, stains and streaks. As a family we decided, this was the week to deal with our dirt. Here are the before and after photos.

Residue.

Build up.

Accumulation.

These pictures of our’s family’s external stripping now turn my eyes inward: “LORD, what false layers of accumulation will we deal with next?”

“The accumulated sorrows of your exile will dissipate. I, your God, will get rid of them for you. You’ve carried those burdens long enough” (Zephaniah 3:18, MSG).

Jeremiah-pressure washing

P.S. For those who live in the Atlanta area, our 19-year-old son Jeremiah, who just graduated from The Lovett School, pressure washed our backyard wall. He is pressure washing for his summer job, trying to save money to help pay for college. If you too are interested in dealing with some of your own dirt, on fencing or driveways, on siding or sidewalks, on house or decks, please contact Jeremiah Allen for a free estimate at 404-747-4971.
