peace-plant

Good morning…

Pictured above, I saved this “peace lily plant” years ago when the previous owner was throwing her in the trash. After I tenderly nursed her back to life, she now rests just over the threshold of our front door, bathed in sunlight, welcoming in guests. She has lived in our home for years and years, but never before have I noticed this plant blossoming three white blooms. Until today.

So I took her picture, downloaded it for you, and googled the questions, “What do white blooms mean on a peace lily plant?”

Here’s what I learn:

  1. The peace lily is a plant often sent in sympathy when someone in the family dies.
  2. White blooms symbolize the rebirth of the soul and transcendence from this earthly life.
  3. The plant is from the genus Spathiphyllum, which is a Latin word that means “peace and prosperity.”
  4. Commonly used to celebrate the resurrection power of Easter morning, this plant is also a symbol of hope, strength, and serenity.

Today is the perfect day for three fresh blooms to capture our attention. One bloom for our Heavenly Father. One bloom for the living Christ. One bloom for the Holy Spirit. Three white flowers are blooming in unison, offering sympathy, symbolizing rebirth, and celebrating the resurrection power rising up, within and among us.

Today really is the perfect day for three fresh blooms to capture our attention. Because of the tender mercy of our God…the Sunrise (the Messiah) from on high will dawn and visit us, to shine upon those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet [in a straight line] into the way of peace and serenity (Luke 1:78-79, AMP).

…Sue…

P.S. I have heard from about ten of you that your peace lily plant is also blooming. It is interesting to me. White blooms are supposed to rise up above the green leaves in the springtime (hence the nickname Easter lily) and then, if well cared for, these plants can bloom again in the fall. I have never noticed mine blooming so boldly in the middle of the summer. I think I personally needed the visual of God’s peace, serenity, and resurrection power quietly at work within and among us.
