dog

Good morning…

Every day I love the dog calendar my dear friend gifted me. I adore the cute photo from Election Day 2020, but even more I love the Will Rogers quote: “I love a dog. He does nothing for political reasons.”

A few minutes after flipping to the above calendar page, I happened upon the comforting video below. Chuckling to myself, my anxious heart melted. It’s fun to watch such different creatures making peace together. If a cat can calm an anxious dog, might our living Lord calm our anxious hearts with the secret plans of God?

It is through the Son, at the cost of his own blood, that we are redeemed, freely forgiven through that full and generous grace which has overflowed into our lives and opened our eyes to the truth. For God had allowed us to know the secret of his plan, and it is this: he purposes in his sovereign will that all human history shall be consummated in Christ, that everything that exists in Heaven or earth shall find its perfection and fulfillment in him (Ephesians 1:7-12, PHILIPS).

What does it mean for all of us to be “consummated in Christ”? To consummate means to bring to completion, to blossom into fruition, to conclude once and forever. All of human history has already been redeemed, freely forgiven, paid for in full by the soulful sacrifice of Jesus. Now, might the generous grace of God overflow into our daily lives to open up our eyes to this eternal truth?

What a wonderful God we have—he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, TLB).

I love our gracious God. He does nothing for political reasons. As we watch this video of a cat calming an anxious dog, might we think of Christ joining us on our couch each day, comforting us so we can comfort others?
