Good morning…
Last night as we watched the Super Bowl with our small group from church, we enjoyed the always entertaining commercials. One clever commercial involved a hilarious Jason Alexander hoodie. Another “Let’s grab a beer” commercial reminded us that it has never been about the beer, it’s about being together. With the return of Wayne’s World, Wayne, Garth and their kooky look alike babies encouraged us to support our local restaurants. Great humor. Out of the box creativity. “So how do people come up with these quirky ideas?” we wondered aloud.
“That one made me cry,” one woman suddenly said. We all agreed, we weren’t expecting to be truly touched by a Super Bowl commercial. Yet with the clip below we were reminded that life might not always be easy, but it will be amazing. “We believe there is hope and strength in each of us,” it concluded.
Now up in the middle of the night, inspired by the touching commercial, I dive deeper into Jessica Long’s Paralympic journey.
“Long grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, but is originally from Siberia,” says the short article. “When she was only 13 months old, she was adopted from a Russian orphanage. Born with fibular hemimelia, Jessica had to have her legs amputated below the knees so she could be fitted for prosthetic legs and learn how to walk. She began swimming in her grandparents’ pool before joining her first competitive team in 2002. By age 12, she was a member of the Paralympic Team and represented Team USA in Athens.”
“I certainly could never have planned—or even imagined—the way in which my life has unfolded so far,” says Long, “but I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us. By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20, GW). Please enjoy with me the one minute clip below, being strengthened to remember: “Life might not always be easy, but, with the power of God at work in us, it will be amazing.”
