retreat

Good morning…

After our sacred celebration of Betty Skinner’s life, I moved to a rustic rental with Kitty Crenshaw and Dr. Cathy Snapp, authors of The Hidden Life Awakened. Our goal was to map out the rhythm of our “Awake To Wholeness Women’s Retreat” being hosted at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church on November 6th. Curled up beneath a shaggy orange blanket, which matched the candle burning beside my shorthaired angel, I felt the powerful presence of God and Betty.

Initially we had planned this retreat for March 28th, 2020, but, as we all remember, on that day COVID had forced us to shelter in place. Rescheduled for November, our retreat has now become one of a series of One Lamb mental health initiatives hosted by the church this fall.

Due to the ongoing influence of the Delta variant, we have shifted our learning style to a livestream webinar. Retreat participants are offered three ways to experience this day of reflection with God.

  1. Meet at PRUMC to be welcomed into small groups gathering throughout the church.
  2. Gather in a private home to experience the day with your own small group of friends.
  3. Retreat at your home alone with God, being guided through a day of quiet reflection.

This more intimate way of learning better reflects Betty’s personal teaching style (standing behind a podium in from of hundreds of women was not Betty’s way). As we planned the rhythm of the retreat, we filtered each detail through three words:

Ease.

Flow.

Peace.

Guided by the power of these three words, we have crafted each of the sessions to include live piano music by Dana Cunningham, a meditative reading from the book, my interviewing of Kitty Crenshaw as she shares true stories from Betty’s life, and a dynamic teaching time led by Dr. Cathy Snapp, including informative handouts and a guided time of personal reflection.

Because of this new livestream webinar format, now women inside and outside of the Atlanta area are invited to join us. Please touch on this link to learn more retreat details and to register at your convenience.

Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life (Philippians 4:7, MSG).
