Good morning…
“Your post about ‘Welcoming Spirt’ made me think of this song,” she texted. “We sing it frequently at church. Anyway, many different versions but, regardless of who sings it, the words are so powerful.”
When I had a quiet moment I thoroughly enjoyed Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes singing live the song Holy Spirit. Then I went about my day, and I went about another. Now up in the early hours of the morning, I am drawn to explore the other versions. There are many great renditions of this moving song, but I particularly love this music video for its pared down nature and the creative use of old fashioned wooden clothes pins.
Now He drew close enough to each of them that they could feel His breath. He breathed on them… Welcome the Holy Spirit of the living God (John 20:22, VOICE). As the lyrics are repeated in various ways, we experience the “Welcoming Spirit” of the living God breathing in our fragile lungs.
You see, you have not received a spirit that returns you to slavery, so you have nothing to fear. The Spirit you have received adopts you and welcomes you into God’s own family. That’s why we call out to Him, “Abba! Father!” as we would address a loving daddy (Romans 8:15, VOICE).
