Good morning…
I rushed into a busy morning before God seemed to say, “Cut free.” Cut free from non-essentials. Cut free from way too much. Cut free with clear permission. Just sit. Just rest. Just be. God’s wispy whisper felt like a drop of water sinking into my thirsty sponge.
This actually happened yesterday. “Cut free,” surprised me, quiet and clear. So I turned my car around and drove directly home. Almost immediately four things happened.
1) I was drawn back to our morning message, His Obit Makes It Real. I listened again to David Crowder sing “Oh How He Loves Us” before I opened an email from a friend in Florida. “Oh Sue,” she wrote, “praying for you and your friend. This is what greets me every time I walk into my pantry – it is balm for the soul, an anchor. Xoxo.”
“Feel loved.“
2) I opened up my next email. “Morning, Sue,” another friend wrote. “I came to Colorado Monday to be with a friend at the end stage of colon cancer. She passed away yesterday so once again thank you for your timely messages. When there is so much love, it really is a holy experience to be with someone as they transition. Praying for your friend who lost her husband too.”
“Be with.”
3) Next I received a text from a younger friend who has a scary spot on her lung. “No change in the spot,” she wrote after her follow up visit. “Doctors are recommending a lung biopsy to get more conclusive results.” “What is your initial reaction?” I responded right away. “Bummed, but I’m ready to know what we’re dealing with. They are supposed to call Monday to schedule,” she replied. “My prayers are with you as you wait.”
“Pray alongside.”
4) “Friends: I just got the following text from Amy Olvey (Action Ministries which is now called Hope Atlanta),” a text quickly came in from another close friend. “She has an urgent need for up to 30 people to pack food boxes for hungry families at the volunteer center on Sunday afternoon and next Tuesday morning. Would you consider serving and also help me spread the word? https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0E4EA9AD29A5F94-community. Have a great weekend!”
“Consider serving.”
God’s divine directives silently saturated my morning.
“Cut free.”
“Feel loved.”
“Be with.”
“Pray alongside.”
“Consider serving.”
With these drops of delicious water, my resting sponge was soaked.
You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you (Isaiah 26:3, GNT).
…Sue…
