eclipse

Good morning…

Beneath the beaming sliver of yesterday’s partial solar eclipse, I experienced one fun, full day of life. We are thoroughly enjoying a three-day visit from life-long friends whose son is ringing the bell at the Chick-fil-a headquarters today as he becomes an owner/operator. Together, we took in the sky’s amazing marvel at the Lovett School, which has been my husband’s loyal work home for twenty-nine years.

We exchanged photos with my extended family as they were in the path of totality. My brother and his daughter in Pennsylvania. My sister, her husband, and her son-in-law in Ohio. My parents at their senior living community near Cleveland, Ohio. What goofy, fun photos to savor and remember.

After the sky returned to its wonderful warmth, we enjoyed an eclipse art project with the kids down at PAWkids in the Grove Park neighborhood of our city. We even celebrated a one-year-old birthday party with one of the newest members of our vibrant community.

“We are held in the trustworthy care of the One who gracefully turns the wheel on our world,” concluded our Monday morning post. By day’s end, I had experienced God’s palpable presence in vibrant totality. With the eerie awe of the eclipse, friends and family near and far, and creative community connection – what fun fullness one memorable day inspired. Thanks be to the Turner of our world’s wheel.

So I went to the potter’s house, and sure enough, the potter was there, working away at his wheel. Whenever the pot the potter was working on turned out badly, as sometimes happens when you are working with clay, the potter would simply start over and use the same clay to make another pot (Jeremiah 18:3-4, MSG).

It’s true. Some days turn out badly, and we simply start over with God. For me, yesterday’s one-of-a-kind creation was a total keeper.
