card

Good morning…

I open up this precious card to read these handwritten words: “Dear Sue, I found these cards at the bottom of the mailing box that your wooden hands came in. I’m sorry they were overlooked! Thank you also for another wonderful semester of learning and loving with you.”

Similar to the original “surrender” card, which I have shared in the past few posts, I find four square cards, each with a single word. “Grace.” “Cruciform.” “Eucharisteo.” “Hope.” In the dark of this starry night, I feel drawn to explore the card depicting grace.

Now I read these words, softly and out loud.

No matter what comes,

Grace is always coming to meet us.

God, give me the grace to embrace

Mysteries I don’t understand,

The openness to live a tender surrender

Into Your ways wiser and kinder than mine,

And the delight of simply being with You

standing there – right here – with me.

“For from His fullness we all received,

grace upon grace.”

– John 1:16

There are so many mysteries I don’t understand. War. Cancer. Metamorphosis. Yet I open my hands in trust. I tenderly surrender into the ways of God, ways wiser and kinder than my own. I receive the gift of grace, empowered by the Spirit. I savor the delight of simply being with the Eternal One standing there – right here – with me. For from God’s fullness all of us receive, grace upon grace.

Dear God, with Your unending grace help us face all of the mysteries we don’t understand.

No matter what comes, God is always coming to meet us, grace upon grace.
