Good morning…
Yesterday’s rain provided the perfect backdrop. Drizzly. Dreary. Grey. With gratitude for the weepy sky, I drove to be with my friend and her actively dying husband. We enjoyed a sacred visit. Our eyes bonded briefly, he and me, and loving energy was exchanged. Then his eyelids softly closed, as he drifted back to sleep.
One family member and two of us close friends spent quality time together with our dear friend. We hugged. We laughed. We savored the moments. We told stories. We shared funny pictures. We brought to life lasting memories. We brainstormed favorite hymns for his service. We stayed the perfect amount of time. Our collective joy was palpable. I have no doubt our uplifting energy flowed through his resting ears to touch his slowing heart.
As I drove home, I noticed the setting sun dropping quietly beneath the heaviness of the clouds. I drove to the top of the Kroger parking garage and snapped the photo above. Like the natural setting of the sun, I felt honored to witness the quiet setting of an earthly life, well-lived.
Soon his spirit will rise like the sun into the full presence of our God. Intimate. Abundant. Forever and evermore. The Mighty God, the Eternal—God of past, present, and future— has spoken over the world, calling together all things from sunrise to sunset (Psalm 50:1, VOICE).
