Good morning…
Last week in our post The Setting Of A Life, I wrote about being with my friend, Martha, as her husband was in the process of dying. That visit to his memory care unit happened on a Monday afternoon. A week later, this past Monday, two of us close friends shared dinner with Martha and thoroughly enjoyed hearing the long version of her experience. Her husband had gone to heaven the day before. On Sunday afternoon, Tom took his final Sabbath rest.
“This week has felt like five years,” said Martha. Friends came to visit. Family spent quality time. The move to a hospice facility brought tranquility. Loved ones naturally offered tangible help. Martha filled Tom’s room with soothing music, loving words, and peaceful energy. In the end, Martha was singing along with the lullaby below as Tom quietly closed his eyes for the last time on earth.
Of the dying process, Jesus himself said this: Don’t get lost in despair; believe in God, and keep on believing in Me. My Father’s home is designed to accommodate all of you. If there were not room for everyone, I would have told you that. I am going to make arrangements for your arrival. I will be there to greet you personally and welcome you home, where we will be together (John 14:1-3, VOICE).
If I could choose my own way to be ushered to our Father’s home, I think falling asleep to this song might be my humble request.
