Good morning…
A friend sent me this image last night, and for some reasons it’s etherial, earthy tones jogged my memory about tonight’s unique full moon.
A total lunar eclipse will occur at around 12:55 am tonight, taking up to 3 hours, 38 minutes for the Earth to pass in front of the moon. Because of the moon’s tendency to turn a reddish hue when covered by Earth’s shadow, this striking phenomenon will be called the “blood moon”.
Amid tonight’s reddish dark, might we stand in awe of this mammoth universe of which we are an important part?
When I look at the sky, which you have made,
at the moon and the stars, which you set in their places—
what are human beings, that you think of them;
mere mortals, that you care for them?
Yet you made them inferior only to yourself;
you crowned them with glory and honor.
You appointed them rulers over everything you made;
you placed them over all creation (Psalm 8:3-6, GNT).
Bestowed with life-giving power, we are designed by God with a wide array of caregiving abilities.
Cry. Cleanse. Flow. Let go.
Burn. Tame. Adapt. Ignite.
Observe. Breathe. Focus. Decide.
Ground. Give. Build. Heal.
Connect. Listen. Know. Be still.
Which three to five of these twenty verbs grab your attention right now? Might these words somehow guide you through this one-of-a-kind day into our “blood moon” night?
My friend also sent another image, painted with similar colors. In our humble humanness, as caretakers of creation, we experience two sides of a single coin. One side is “loneliness,” the pain of being alone. The other side is “solitude,” the glory of being alone. Over the next twenty-four hours, as we rock between life’s pain and life’s glory, might we embody this divine truth?
“We are an essential part of God’s evolving story.”
