Good morning…
“I grew up with a mom who often overreacted,” said my friend, as we talked to and from the horse farm. “She would blow up over the littlest thing.”
Now my friend finds herself wrestling with the same impulsive tendency. “I’m trying to learn to PAUSE more,” she explained, “like the Bible verse about being quick to listen and slow to speak.”
My dear friends,
you should be
quick to listen
and slow to speak
or to get angry.
– James 1:19 (CEV)
As we walked, side by side, we identified four guiding words, words which might help us to calmly respond rather than knee-jerk react.
PAUSE.
PRAY.
PROCESS feelings with God.
PROCEED, quick to listen and slow to speak.
“That reminds me of my very favorite verse,” said my friend.
Let your gentleness
be evident
to all.
The Lord is near.
– Philippians 4:5 (NIV)
As we rest in the presence of our living Lord, may these four P-words and these two scripture verses guide us in the way of peace.
