Good morning…
As the first light of the new year crept through the slots in our bathroom shutters, I sensed the moon growing pregnant with full potential. Sure enough. The Wolf Supermoon (Wolf named for howling wolves in winter and Supermoon because it coincides with the Moon’s closest point to Earth, appearing larger and brighter) will occur on Saturday, January 3, 2026, also giving the appearance of fullness on January 2nd and 4th.
So just as I had sensed, in the early hours of January 1st, full moonlight was beginning to expand into the dark of night.
When I woke in the morning, I received from a friend a “Happy New Year” wish along with this image of light letters adorning the dark.

“I love this,” I replied. “What perfect wisdom for this gorgeous day. I am walking at the horse farm in the cool sunshine with our puppy Cami. I just got off the phone with my parents in Ohio who have 3 to 4 inches of new snow overnight.”
I pondered the image and filled in my own 2025 experiences. “Thankful my mom pulled through last February after being unresponsive in the ICU for three days and thankful my dad’s cancer is contained in his prostate. Thankful for Cami coming to us in October after we put down our old beloved nine year old dog, Tate, in June. Thankful for my family, my friends, my life-giving work.”
I added my 2026 hopes. “Trusting God with the development of our first grandbaby, who is due in May. Trusting God with our other young adult kids as they find their own helpmates in life. Trusting God with whatever joys and sorrows fill each day ahead.”
“If you wrote your top three ‘thanks’ and your top three areas of ‘trust’ what might they be?” I texted my friend.
As more stripes of light inch across our bathroom floor, now I turn the question to each one of you, asking personally.
“If you wrote
your top three
‘thanks’ from 2025
and
your top three
growing areas of ‘trust’
in 2026,
what might they be?”
Lord, help us to look back and thank You while we look forward and trust you, day after day, month after month, year after year. Teach us to number our days so that we may truly live and achieve wisdom (Psalm 90:12, VOICE).
