Good morning…

I recently met this sign at a restaurant in Madison, Georgia.

As we savor C.O.F.F.E.E this morning, might we give thanks for God’s enduring truth?

Christ Offers Forgiveness For Everyone Everywhere.

I am reminded of the lyrics from a song that the kids in our youth group loved to sing in the 1990’s, Breathe Deep by the Lost Dogs.

******

Politicians, morticians, philistines, homophobes
Skinheads, dead heads, tax evaders, street kids
Alcoholics, workaholics, wise guys, dimwits
Blue collars, white collars, war mongers, peaceniks

[Chorus] Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God
Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God

Suicidals, rock idols, shut-ins, drop outs
Friendless, homeless, penniless and depressed
Presidents, residents, foreigners and aliens
Dissidents, feminists, xenophobes and chauvinists

[Chorus] Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God
Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God

Evolutionists, creationists, perverts, slum lords
Dead-beats, athletes, Protestants and Catholics
Housewives, neophytes, pro-choice, pro-life
Misogynists, monogamists, philanthropists, blacks and whites

[Chorus] Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God
Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God

Police, obese, lawyers, and government
Sex offenders, tax collectors, war vets, rejects
Atheists, scientists, racists, sadists
Biographers, photographers, artists, pornographers

[Chorus] Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God
Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God

Gays and lesbians, demagogues and thespians
The disabled, preachers, doctors and teachers
Meat eaters, wife beaters, judges and juries
Long hairs, no hairs, everybody everywhere

[Chorus] Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God
Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God
Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God
Breathe deep
Breathe deep the breath of God

If You, Eternal One, recorded each offense,
Lord, who on earth could stand innocent?
But with You forgiveness exists;
that’s why true respect of You might flow.

So I wait for the Eternal—my soul awaits rescue—
and I put my hope in His transforming word (Psalm 130:3-5, VOICE).
