Good morning…
This week, we took a deep dive into chapter five in Paula D’Arcy’s Waking Up to This Day.
As we learn to obey the rhythms of life, we begin to make peace with the unpredictable movement of God.
- “Life is change, Paula, the life force whispered. That’s what life is. Life is an expression of the Divine in its many appearances and boundless disguises. Don’t cling to the individual forms of things; none of them last. Turn instead to the Source that brings these forms into momentary being.” (63)
- “The forms of things are always changing. Trees wither and drop their needles and die, people move in and out of our lives, fire and flood destroy property. Yet within each event, within every season, within the relationships that change and prove themselves to be impermanent, within the birthing and dying, and after a million things take form and drop away – still, that which brings life into being, the unchangeable presence called God, is there.” (65)
- “Accepting change means learning about surrender and trust. It is not so much trusting that our circumstances will improve, but trusting that whatever happens, we’ll find our way.” (67)
- “Making peace with change was not just about accepting the inevitability that things move and fluctuate. It was about the trust and willingness to be a full participant in the life I’d been given.” (68)
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out (Romans 12:1-2a, MSG).
