Good morning…
Yesterday afternoon, we happily gathered for our first monthly class of this new semester. Amidst our great discussion, we read aloud from page 24 in A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson.
“…one motif occurs again and again,” wrote Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. “A traveler loses his way in the forest; it it dark and he is afraid. Danger lurks behind every tree. A storm shatters the silence. The fool looks at the lightning, the wise man at the road that lies – illuminated – before him.”
Eugene Peterson personalizes the insight. “Whenever we say no to one way of life that we have long been used to, there is pain. But when the way of life is in fact a way of death, a way of war, the quicker we leave it the better… Any hurt is worth it if it puts us on the path of peace, setting us free for the pursuit, in Christ, of eternal life… It is the discovery that there is always a way that leads out of distress – a way that begins in repentance, or turning to God.”
Then, waking in the middle of the night, I snapped the photo above. Sparks of moonlight illuminated the darkness.
Now, visiting with my phone at 2:00 am, I notice a devotional message sent to me yesterday morning. In total sync, it is entitled The Path of Life. Let this teaching lead you wherever you go. It will watch over you while you sleep. And when you wake up, it will give you good advice (Proverbs 6:22, ERV).
Might this gentle teaching lead us wherever we go? https://dwellapp.io/+2MF1L
