Good morning…
In response to my post “A slap in the face,” she wrote: “I had to laugh out loud today. Many years ago, when my daughters were still young, I sang in an adult choir in a small SC United Methodist church. One night at practice, the director was giving us dates for a special performance. A very talented bass with a sense of humor said he couldn’t make it since he had a funeral to go to. It was months away and I couldn’t figure out how he already knew that (Duh-uh). He was quoting scripture and didn’t even know it! The expression, ‘I have a funeral to go to,’ became common with us when we were signing up for anything as a likely excuse. Your explanation of “Lord, let me wait until I bury my father,” surely hit home but it also reminded me of a very special group of committed choir members. Thanks as always for sharing your gift.”
I replied: “I appreciate you sharing your choir story. Look at that. The temptation to use the excuse, ‘I have a funeral to go to,’ does have biblical roots! I appreciate your constant support.”
