Good morning…
Our weekly Thursday class decided to meet monthly in this summer season. As we gathered last week, one of the women shared a page from a devotional book she loves. She read the following words to us aloud, before we unpacked our thoughts as a group.

The word “standby” stood out to us.
Exploring the word now, I deepen into its meaning. “A standby is something (or someone) you can rely on in an emergency,” explains vocabulary.com. Whatever circumstances surround us, it’s comforting to know that the Spirit is always on standby, waiting for us to turn to Him, to ask Him for help, to listen to His voice, to heed His wisdom, to give us power.
…you have received the Holy Spirit from God. He continues to live in you. So you don’t need anyone to teach you. God’s Spirit teaches you about everything. What he says is true. He doesn’t lie. Remain joined to Christ, just as you have been taught by the Spirit (1 John 2:27, NIRV).
Jesus has equipped us with Holy Spirit power. Will we turn and ask, listen and heed the guiding wisdom of God?
…Sue…
P.S. The Spirit is clearly at work. After I sent our message, I opened the daily devotional from Henri Nouwen Society. The very same topic and the central Scripture reference are highlighted by Nouwen today.
With The Holy Spirit by Henri Nouwen
Jesus lived his whole life as the beloved of God. His spirit was imbued with Love. And Jesus died well because he knew he was going to God and he would soon send his Spirit of Love to his friends. “It is good for you that I leave,” he said, “because unless I leave, I cannot send my Spirit who will lead you to the full communion, to the full truth, to the full betrothal.” With that Holy Spirit he knew that his beloved apostles would live better, happier lives.
