Good morning…

Several years back my kids’ school played their rival football team right up the street and many in our community poured into the stands. It was a hard fought battle, back and forth, back and forth. The intensity was high, the competition thrilling. I do not remember who won the game (which means we probably lost!) but I do recall the overwhelming excitement and I do remember one other thing.

As this amazing football game was taking place on the field, one row in front of me was a young boy who was glued to his hand held device. His attention was captured by a tiny, make-believe football game, rendering him completely oblivious to the real life gift unfolding before loudly cheering eyes.

Where we focus our attention makes all the difference. If we lift our eyes and take in real life, we are filled with thrills and intensity, excitement and community. If we drop our gaze, glued upon a false god, our distracted eyes might remain completely oblivious to the gift of God unfolding before us.

“Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes!”
1 Samuel 12:16 (NIV),
