card

Good morning…

This wordless prayer card I created, which remains front and center for me this week, depicts my deepest desire for Audrey DeShetler: May she live to be a wise, old woman. A resilient eighteen year old, who is battling through her fifth relapse, Audrey was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at age five.

Being treated with risky radioactive therapy at the Children’s Healthcare of Philadelphia, Audrey amazed the doctors as her body processed the trial treatment much more quickly than expected. Miraculously, Audrey was able to do BOTH this grueling therapy AND be home in time to attend the first day of her senior year, which was her deep desire. (For details, read her father’s Facebook post below.)

Learning that she was coming home early, I texted her mom, Jennifer, “Might I bring you and your family some celebratory Stromboli tonight, tomorrow, or any time this week? Ask Audrey and see when she might like some warm cheesy love!”

“That would be awesome!” came her reply. “Scott (older brother) is home so I know he would love it too. Is tonight too rushed? Audrey literally has not eaten anything since last Wednesday night.”

“I would love to have homemade Stromboli be your first meal at home,” I texted before heading to the store to get all the ingredients for a yummy gift stuffed with love, hope, and gratitude.

Yesterday, Jennifer texted these photos to our Fab Five friend group, “I want to share with y’all my dinner from last night.”

Exchanging texts throughout the day, Jennifer’s final words were my very favorite: “We are so grateful God made today happen.”

Today and every day, we are invited into intimate oneness with the miracle-making God who hears the deepest desires of our surrendered hearts. Now to the God who can do so many awe-inspiring things, immeasurable things, things greater than we ever could ask or imagine through the power at work in us, to Him be all glory… (Ephesians 3:20-21a, VOICE).
