light-bulb

Good morning…

I cannot unplug from Richard Rohr’s quote in Falling Upward: “As Desmond Tutu told me on a recent trip to Cape Town, ‘We are only the light bulbs, Richard, and our job is just to remain screwed in!'” (ix)

Jesus says a similar thing, “Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you…for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing” (John 15:4a-5b, AMP). Stepping back a few chapters, Jesus also explains, “I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark” (John 12:46, NLT). Jesus encourages us boldly, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14, NIV).

Jesus is a light bulb remaining screwed in to the Source of all life. Just like you. Just like me. Remaining in vital union with our Creator, Jesus comes as a light to shine in this dark world. Just like you. Just like me. Jesus came to speak truth and spark trust, embodying the power of our Heavenly Father. Just like you. Just like me.

I totally agree with Tutu, Rohr, and Jesus: “We are only the light bulbs, my friend, and our job is just to remain screwed in!”
