Good morning…
“The unseen Spirit of God was real to Betsy Anderson,” said the minister with delight. Betsy captured breadcrumbs of Spirit-led living, compiling over her nine decades a coveted document called “Betsy’s Bullets.” Each person who attended Saturday’s celebration of life service got a bright yellow copy of Betsy’s words of wisdom, “learned here, there, and everywhere in life.” Of the five full pages of loving one liners, these are my top fifteen favorites.
- Ego is Easing God Out.
- Pain is unavoidable. Misery is an option.
- It’s hard to be hateful when I am grateful.
- I can insist on being right or I can be happy.
- If I am always reacting then I am never free.
- Don’t kill a fly on the forehead with a hammer.
- Advice not asked for comes across as criticism.
- When you lose control of yourself – the other party wins.
- An unrealistic expectation is a premeditated resentment.
- Acceptance is when my heart hears what my head knows.
- God will never take me where His love cannot protect me.
- Living through others throws me out of the saddle of sanity.
- Forgiveness does not change the past – it enlarges the future.
- Sometimes blame is just an excuse to keep busy so I don’t have to feel the discomfort of my own powerlessness.
- Dear_________, I am responsible for everything that happens today and I will not be needing your help. Love, God
Today if you had to choose two or three of Betsy’s bullet points to journal about with God, which ones would you choose, and why?
Dear friend, guard Clear Thinking and Common Sense with your life; don’t for a minute lose sight of them. They’ll keep your soul alive and well, they’ll keep you fit and attractive. You’ll travel safely, you’ll neither tire nor trip. You’ll take afternoon naps without a worry, you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep. No need to panic over alarms or surprises, or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner, because God will be right there with you; he’ll keep you safe and sound (Proverbs 3:21-26, MSG).
