Good morning…
Last week, I called a “mimosa morning” for my Friday Bible study class. Hosting small groups in my living room each day, I reserve the right to call a “mimosa morning” whenever the Spirit moves me. The Spirit moved me last Friday because significant highs and lows aligned.
First, we sold our old home last week after straddling two mortgages for fourteen months. Yippee. Second, our beloved Friday morning Bible study friend has a daughter who was diagnosed with cancer five years ago last week, at the age of five. Our now ten year old miracle child has been the focus of our heartfelt prayers week after week after week, for five full years. Our current prayer is that next week’s scans produce the three letters we all love best. NED, No Evidence of Disease. Third, last Friday would have been the 53rd birthday of my dear college friend who passed away from cancer last fall, after battling for four years. I felt privileged to raise a glass with others to honor the day of her birth.
The highs and the lows in life hold hands every Friday. Each day of the week, as a matter of fact, the highs and the lows of life hold hands. Sometimes we feel the tenderness of the touch more intensely, more intimately. When we are moved by God’s Spirit to celebrate the slow dance between life’s joys and life’s sorrows, it is a perfect moment to call a “mimosa morning.” Gathering in my home, anyone is welcome to a few inches of champagne and a few inches of orange juice as we recognize together the gift of wholehearted living.
“…shepherd and guide and protect the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not [motivated] for shameful gain, but with wholehearted enthusiasm,” 1 Peter 5:2 (AMP),
