Good morning…
After yesterday’s post, she texted another one of her favorite quotes from our summertime read, The Way of the Heart by Henri Nouwen.
Silence
is the discipline
by which
the inner fire of God
is tended and kept alive.
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother…and your mother…and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God…for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control (2 Timothy 1:5-7, ESV).
I am also reminded so I remind you. God gave us each spiritual gifts.
Tend.
Keep alive.
Fan into flame.
Set aglow in silence, the flame of God steadily grows in strength.
Now savoring my own small paperback copy, I notice another sacred sentence blazing like a log.
Solitude
is the furnace
of transformation.
Much like being mesmerized by a crackling campfire, when we invest time in silence and solitude with God, we watch our fears burn away. From the center of our innermost being, we are transformed to transform the world with the gifts of God.
Power.
Love.
Self-control.
