shower

Good morning…

This is a week to celebrate Baby Allen, our first grandchild now developing in a cozy womb, as we anticipate his May 15th due date.

books

On Thursday morning, our class celebrated my birthday a few days early by showering me with children’s books. These favorite treasures will stay at “Sue Sue’s” home, to be read over and over again to curious minds and sleepy eyes.

What a wonderful idea – books!

We, as adult women, have discussed great book after great book, semester by semester. What fun it will be to read to Baby Allen classic books signed by the amazing women who have shaped my life so profoundly, year after year.

Then today we will gather with our daughter-in-law, along with family and friends, to shower Chandler with gifts to support her adventure as a new mom. A special part of today’s celebration will be displaying photos of Chandler and our son Kyler when they were infants and toddlers.

Kyler

I thoroughly enjoyed choosing pictures that highlight the ordinary parts of Kyler’s earliest days. Sleeping on Steve’s chest as we brought him home from the hospital. The changing pad on his antique dresser. His favorite pillow, which he endearingly called “B”; this pillow he carried everywhere was handmade from the blue nightgown I wore during our nursing year. Bundling up and heading to a local farm to cut down our Christmas tree each year was a beloved tradition. The exersaucer he played in as a toddler, with a tray full of toys in the round to drop on the ground. The basketful of overflowing toys which became the centerpiece of our living room. And baths, oh the baths; we would spend the late afternoon hours in our huge garden tub as we waited for Steve to return from his work day.

These memories are so precious to me, and I cannot wait for Kyler and Chandler to make their own favorite memories with their firstborn. And I’m extremely excited to read to him book after book signed by my Thursday morning friends!

Bring gifts and celebrate, bow before the beauty of God (Psalm 96:8a, MSG).
