Good morning…
After our life-giving discussion, she sent us all a text: “I just read this poem and it makes me think of our book and the special bond within this group, as we each remind each other that the sun does indeed shine.”

“Coping” by Audre Lorde
It has rained for five days
running
the world is
a round puddle
of sunless water
where small islands
are only beginning
to cope
a young boy
in my garden
is bailing out water
from his flower patch
when I ask him why
he tells me
young seeds that have not seen sun
forget
and drown easily.

We cope in a drowning world by bailing out water from our own flower patch and reminding each other that the sun does indeed shine.
Oh, how sweet the light of day, and how wonderful to live in the sunshine! Even if you live a long time, don’t take a single day for granted. Take delight in each light-filled hour, remembering that there will also be many dark days (Ecclesiastes 11:7-8, MSG).
