Good morning…

I was inspired by the nine minute talk shared in our blog post yesterday, Doing Hard And Holy Work. Encouraged by twenty-five year old Atlantan, Danielle Coke, I treasure-hunted for the poem she shared at the end of her vulnerable presentation. This young artist and activist offers a creative, colorful invitation into our humble, daily walk with the Lord, the living and active God who has created each one of us do good work in this hurting world.

The Lord has told you what is good. He has told you what he wants from you: Do what is right to other people. Love being kind to others. And live humbly, trusting your God (Micah 6:8, ICB). Danielle’s honest expressions help us to do what is right with other people, to love being kind to everyone, and to live humbly together, totally trusting our compassionate Creator.

Enjoy this powerful poem. May God’s wisdom hold our multi-colored hands and walk us forward into the good work for which we were created.

Good Work by Danielle Coke

You were created to do good work. Work that empowers and inspires, liberates and transforms, restores and softens.

Yes, work can be hard – as it was meant to be. The verb itself calls us to action, rejecting passivity and demanding sustained effort. It provokes, agitates, and disturbs. But this work – the call for justice – is good work.

It defends the oppressed and frees the captive. It tears down walls and destroys barriers. It changes things.

So when you are feeling weary, or hopeless, or spent, remind yourself that the darkness is being flooded by marvelous light.

Yes, this is work. And it is good.

You were created to do good work. So was Danielle. So am I. Discovering our own God-designed piece in this multi-faceted healing puzzle, we will learn what it means to do hard, holy things with our single lifetime.

For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us] (Ephesians 2:10, AMP).

Now, take a sacred minute to experience this spoken-word poem, shared through the sparkling spirit of Danielle herself.
