Good morning…
Speaking light into the formless dark, God creatively gave order to life’s chaos. As we read the first chapter of Genesis, verbs tumble all over us. God saw and separated. God called and said. God made and named creation “good.”
Then the land itself creatively cooperated, producing and bearing, plants and trees. The expansive sky also joined the chorus, sun and moon lit and governed, marking time as sacred. Night and day. Days and years. Then the waters got into the action, teeming with living creatures, inviting all varieties of birds to fly above. Livestock and wild animals moved across the ground, content with their own kind. God blessed each created being, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the waters. Increase on the earth.” As each day passed, God marveled at this chaos-turned-creation, bestowing again the label “good.”
This collaborative, triune God (an interactive bundle of Father, Son, and Spirit) then did something incredible. Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
So God created human beings in his own image.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day (Genesis 1:26-28, 31, NLT).
Did you catch that? Once male-female, mini-Me caregivers were placed on the scene, God elevated His assessment of creation from “good” to “very good!”
“Be fruitful. Multiply. Fill. Govern. Reign.” These are now our daily tasks, assigned by the God of the universe. Are we willing to hug life’s chaos, cooperating with God’s creative power?
God…is not a God of confusion and disorder but of peace and order (1 Corinthians 14:33a, AMP),
