Good morning…
We gathered together in the morning before the afternoon funeral. We read aloud the beginning of Psalm 71 to open our heartfelt time of prayer on behalf of our friend who grieves the loss of her husband and the kids who will always miss their dad. Verses one through three, in the Message translation, read like this:
I run for dear life to God,
I’ll never live to regret it.
Do what you do so well:
get me out of this mess and up on my feet.
Put your ear to the ground and listen,
give me space for salvation.
Be a guest room where I can retreat;
you said your door was always open!
You’re my salvation—my vast, granite fortress.
As a living room full of friends, we climbed into God’s mighty fortress, begging the LORD to get this family out of their mess, back up on their feet. We asked God to put His ear to the ground and listen, offering space for salvation from their great pain. We prayed that we might each offer various kinds of retreat, opening our doors to whatever this family needs. As we all grieve as a community, our LORD builds for us a vast, granite fortress, a place we can all run for dear life to God.
Curl up inside God’s cozy home.
You will never regret it,
Sue
