light

Good morning…

Many of you have shared with me fun photos of the light of the Lord filling your homes, and, drenched with multi-faceted meaning, the photo above felt like a gift to share. This ethereal image, light, airy, tenuous, came with a text: “Light of the Lord at my house this AM leading me out of my comfort zone. Zoom in on the piece of art I bought years ago when I was single and read the quote!”

So I did just that. I zoomed in and read: “She saw herself reflected in the store window & then the sun changed & she disappeared & all she could see was her eyes & she remembered thinking, I make a very nice floor lamp & that was the day she decided to quit her job.”

In a tenuous time when many have lost their jobs, many are boxed into difficult situations, many are struggling to make ends meet, emotionally, financially, spiritually, is there still room for brave people to make a deep down decision to let go of the stagnant, the outgrown, the soul-sucking? When we cling too long to an outdated comfort zone because it’s easier, it’s familiar, it’s expected of us, we can become like a very nice floor lamp. We are designed to walk in the light of our living Lord, and sometimes, even in hard times, that means, metaphorically, deciding to quit a job.

Send me your light and your faithful care. Let them lead me. Let them bring me back to your holy mountain, to the place where you live (Psalm 43:3, NIRV). Guided by God’s light and faithful care, what crusty comforts are you being coaxed to quit?
