Good morning…

I fell in love with a song when our kids were young, a song comparing two neighboring houses “side by side on Baxter Street.” Allen Levi’s soothing voice tickles our heart with this chorus: “1412 is a magazine cover. 1420 is covered with kids. One’s just a picture post card. The other’s where real people live.”

The song goes on to ask a few personal questions. “Now is my house a curse or a blessing? Does my house have the warmth of a home? Does my door say, ‘Please enter. You’re welcome?’ Or does it say, ‘Leave me alone?'”

“We can keep our world free from intrusion,” Levi sings. “We can keep our lives neat as a pin. But just how can we love our neighbor if we don’t let our neighbors come in?”

I heard a voice thunder from the Throne: “Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood, making his home with men and women!” (Revelation 21:3, MSG). Prayerfully, let us ponder one final question: “How might my home become a space where God is more intimately known by my neighbors?”
