Good morning…
For some unknown reason, this fun photo of my dad has gotten saved on my computer desktop. Without a technical bone in my body, I am a very unusual daily blogger. I am not on social media. I don’t know how computers work. And I really have no idea how this photo got saved on my laptop, this photo of my dad performing in Music Man at their senior living community in Ohio on June 2nd.
As I study this photo, I see a man in a supporting role, both in this show and in the life of my mom who is on the mend, learning to walk again after her third fall resulting in a broken bone. This bone was broken near the hip of her “good” right leg when I was in town to watch my parents perform.
My dad is in a support role for my mom as she faces the challenges of daily life, with God being the star of her show and my mom living off the strength of the Spirit expanding inside her. My parents are a prime example of 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, shared here in the Message translation.
So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.
My mom is thriving as the lead actress in the story God is writing with her life. If I were the judge, my dad would win an Oscar in the “Supporting Actor” category. This fun photo now greets me each morning, reminding me that God is making new life as each day goes by, saturated us all with unfolding grace.
Now, I turn to you and ask, “How do you see these divine dynamics at play in your own life and in the life of those you love?” Think about it. Who are some of your supporting actors? In what ways do you sense God making new life, creating good, lavish times out of the hard times you are experiencing There’s far more here than meets the eye. So we must enlist our other senses. Hidden things we can’t see now will last forever.
What photo might you choose to save on your desktop to encourage you, “Don’t give up!” Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, God is making new life. Not a day goes by without the quiet unfolding of his transformative grace.
So we are not giving up.
