Good morning…
“What a privilege,” I thought to myself as I stood 38th in line, waiting for the polls to open. Calm was the crowd. Spouses chatted quietly. Neighbors caught up. How grateful I am for our peaceful process of electing our next President, our supporting Senators, and our community’s Congressmen. No violence. No protests. No taking political matters into bloodied hands, like we often see broadcast from countries around the globe. “What a privilege it is to live in the freedom of peace.”
The calm, the peace, the freedom I felt waiting in line today runs much deeper than my confidence in any name on the voting ballot. Regardless of who wins these political races, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8, NIV).
Today and every day, I trust the Word of God spoken from the lips of the prophet Isaiah.
A child has been born for us.
We have been given a son
who will be our ruler.
His names will be
Wonderful Advisor
and Mighty God,
Eternal Father
and Prince of Peace.
His power will never end;
peace will last forever.
He will rule David’s kingdom
and make it grow strong.
He will always rule
with honesty and justice.
The Lord All-Powerful
will make certain
that all of this is done (Isaiah 9:6-7, CEV).
As the Prince of Peace rules, I am excited to watch God’s kingdom on earth grow strong, expanding in honesty and justice, steeped in never ending power and everlasting peace.
For no word from God will ever fail (Luke 1:37, NIV).
